POETRY OFF THE SHELF

POESIA EN ABRIL:

MIGUEL BARENT AND ANA ROSSETTI

Susurros, or whispers, is the theme of the fifth edition of Poesía en Abril festival, a celebration of Spanish-language poetry. Miguel Barnet of Cuba and Ana Rossetti of Spain appear as part of this citywide event, bringing their distinct poetic voices to the Poetry Foundation.

Widely recognized for his testimonial novel Biografía de un cimarrón (1966), Miguel Barnet is well known in Cuba for his work in the field of ethnographic studies and for his poetry. He is currently President of the Unión de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba.

Since she broke into the poetry scene in Spain with her book Los devaneos de Erato in 1980, Ana Rossetti has become one of the most important literary voices of her generation. Her poetic and narrative body of work is erotic in tone, and her work for theatre and opera librettos is extensive.

The evening will include a bilingual reading with translation and performance. Visit www.contratiempo.net for more information about the festival.

Co-sponsored by contratiempo and DePaul University.
